Buterfly necklace tutorial

Gorgeous butterfly necklace DIY thank you gift

Add a personal touch to your party by making yourself this beautiful necklace all your girlfriends will love and wear

Your guests will, most probably, give you gifts that you can use, for you and the baby, long after the party. Why not doing the same thing for them? Instead of choosing to buy some candy they will eat in seconds and then complain a lifetime about their line, why not give them something a little more …. long lasting?

This pretty, silver plated necklace is a jewelry that not only most of your girlfriends will enjoy wearing, but it is also something you can easily make by yourself and it's less inexpensive than you might think! (Also, it will be a great final touch to a butterfly theme party.)

What you'll need

Total cost

All the materials for 40 necklaces AND the tools you'll have for all of your next projects (and don't have to buy again) you will cost you USD 17.46. This means you'll spend as little as USD 0.43 per necklace (provided that your order for some time in advance in order to benefit of the free delivery offer, otherwise you'll have to add a few bucks for delivery costs, so plan ahead!).

Let's get started!

Step 1. Open one jump ring using your pliers, as in the picture. Grasp the jump ring on either side of the opening with two pairs of chain nose pliers and open it by moving the sides together in a back and forth wiggle motion. (If you don't want to buy two pairs of pliers, you can use one pair of pliers and your fingers, which is fine for the bigger jump rings, but it's always easier to use 2 pairs. It will give you more control on the operations and your fingers will remain beautiful. Also be careful to move it only in the back and forth direction otherwise you'll ruin the round shape of the jump ring and you'll never make it back as it was.

Step 2. While gripping the jump ring with the plier, attach the butterfly as shown. I used the second hole of the wing because I liked it the way the butterfly would appear as resting on the cord, instead of dangling on it, but you can use whatever position you like.
TIP! If you are buying for the first time jewelry tools, probably the wisest choice would be to buy a pair of round nose pliers and a pair of chain nose pliers, as those are the most used tools in beading.

Step 3.While gripping the jump ring and the butterfly with the chain nose plier, insert the cord too. TIP! Instead of ordering a pack of 5mm jump rings, for a few extra dollars, you may order a pack of assorted jump rings so you can use them for a lot of future projects.

Let's get started!

Step 4. Close the jump ring with the same motion of moving them back and forth and overlap the sides of the ring so there is tension when the two sides meet. Then snap the two sides together to close the ring. The seam should be closed tightly. If the jump ring sides were a little too much overlapped in the original position, you can adjust it by gently pulling a little bit on the side.

Step 5. Repeat the operation with another jump ring and using the symmetrical whole in the other wing in order to avoid a crooked butterfly on the necklace (unless, of course, that is what you wanted, which is also fine) and voila, you have your finished necklace!

Now, all you have to do is attach a Thank you card on it with a little ribbon, put it in the box and the gift is ready! Enjoy!

Tip: If you'd rather like to have a rather asymmetrical positioned butterfly dangling on the cord instead of "resting" on it, you can skip Step 4 and have you jump ring attached on the first hole of the wing, instead of the second one.

Enjoy!
